Highlighting our heroes: An update with Moses Arineitwe

Pangolin Photo Host, William Steel, recently visited the Uganda Pangolin Rescue Centre, where he spent time with our conservation hero, Moses Arineitwe.

While scouting new locations for a gorilla and chimpanzee photo safari, William saw the amazing work Moses and his team do daily to rescue, care for, and protect endangered pangolins in Uganda.

A thank-you message from Moses and the rescue team

“Dear friends and supporters, greetings from the Pangolin Rescue Centre team. We are incredibly grateful for your support. Thanks to your donations, we’ve been able to:

  • Rescue and care for three additional pangolins, including one already released back into the wild.
  • Reach more schools and communities with our solar-powered projector, sharing videos and photos even in remote areas.
  • Secure a new transport vehicle for faster responses to rescue calls.
  • We’ve launched alternative livelihood programs, including sustainable projects like catfish farming, to give former poachers an alternative to hunting pangolins.

Thanks to you, we’ve rescued and rehabilitated over 170 pangolins! We’re so grateful for your partnership in protecting these incredible animals!”

Give a gift with impact this holiday season

Moses and his team could use your support this holiday season. A small donation can help them continue their important work rescuing and caring for pangolins.

Right now, they need funds for motorbikes and fuel, allowing them to respond quickly when they receive a rescue call. Basic medical supplies, like gloves, gauze, and essential medicines, are also needed, along with tracking devices to monitor the pangolins’ progress after they’re released.

“Our funding comes from friends, and we’re grateful for all the support we receive,” says Moses.

We call on you – and all our #PangolinGuardians – to help get Moses the equipment, medicines, and supplies he needs.

Your contribution, in any amount, can make a difference:

  • ZAR 500 (USD 30 / GBP 20) covers motorbike fuel for five pangolin rescues.
  • ZAR 1,000 (USD 50 / GBP 40) provides a month’s worth of veterinary supplies.
  • ZAR 10,000 (USD 500 / GBP 400) supports rescue center salaries for a month.
  • ZAR 7,000 (USD 700 / GBP 300) helps buy a solar-powered projector for educational outreach.
